Ingredients:
- 1 cup hazelnuts, finely chopped
- 1/2 cup chocolate chips
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 egg, beaten for egg wash
Instructions:
In a mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy
Add the vanilla extract and salt, and mix until well combined
Gradually add the all-purpose flour to the mixture, and knead until a smooth dough forms
Divide the dough into two equal portions, and shape each into a flat rectangle
Wrap them in plastic wrap and chill in the refrigerator for about 30 minutes
Preheat your oven to 350F 175C
Roll out one portion of the chilled dough on a lightly floured surface into a rectangular shape, about 1/4 inch thick
Sprinkle half of the finely chopped hazelnuts and chocolate chips evenly over the rolled-out dough, pressing them gently into the surface
Starting from one of the longer edges, tightly roll the dough into a log, similar to a cinnamon roll
Repeat the process with the second portion of dough, hazelnuts, and chocolate chips
Cut each log into slices, about 1/2 inch thick
Place the slices on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, leaving some space between each spiral
Brush the top of each spiral with the beaten egg wash
Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until the spirals are golden brown and crisp
Remove from the oven and let the spirals cool on a wire rack
Once cooled, the chocolate hazelnut spirals are ready to be enjoyed!
